You Can't Do 1000 Things to the Glory of God

This year I have decided to write a blog...but I want it to be known I did not enter into this relationship casually. Every morning I wake up with a fairly regimented plan for my day. You see, I really don't spend any of my time "just doing nothing". The reality is I don't have time for that. Every activity that I decide to take on has been prioritized and to meet my perfectionist tendencies, I prefer to feel like I am doing a good job at it. Each morning I intend to manage my day, but in reality once I leave my house my day ends up managing me. (This is the life of an OB) Fundamentally this is the problem for most American women; we put too much on our proverbial plates and want to be excellent at all of it. When we put too much energy in one area we realize it is to the detriment of another; the result....guilt or anxiety. The truth is...you can't do 1000 things to the Glory of God. Maybe a few, but not everything. In each season of your life you are going to have to prioritize in what things God wants you to strive for excellence. Because of this realization I am very selective about what new activities I am willing to take on. I already know a few things God clearly wants me to use to bring him Glory...1. My marriage. 2. The raising of my sons. 3. The ministry of my medical practice. 4. My spiritual gift.
"The end of all things is near...Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ." 1Peter4:7-12 God has used several people and instances to speak very clearly over me that he wants me to write. I've already had the privileged opportunity to publish one book and several articles in a local Christian magazine. But this, I believe is just the beginning of what God has in store for me.
So back to the blog. In the past I have not been a fan of blogs because I found many to be self indulgent. However several close friends of mine have shown me how they very much can be used to the Glory of God. So for that reason I am willing to add blogging to my list of prioritized activities. Let's see what God has planned...I'll keep you posted and to Him Be ALL THE GLORY!
